What Happens In A Circumcision Clinic In London

By Marie Russell

The hood of skin covering the tip of the penis is usually called the foreskin. It is usually the decision of every parent in the developed nations to have the foreskin removed or not after birth. The foreskin is removed in a process called circumcision. The number of parents who take their children into a circumcision clinic in London so that they can be circumcised is growing fast.

This process is more commonly done to children in the United States, Middle East, Africa, and Canada. Regions it is uncommon include Europe, Central America, South America, and Asia. In places it is most commonly practiced, the process is done for health, hygiene, religious, and cultural reasons. In Africa, religious and cultural reasons are major motivators than health. On the other hand, in the United States, hygiene and health purposes seem to be leading motivators.

In most cases, circumcision is done within the first or second day after birth. Depending on the purpose or circumstances, it may take as long as ten days for the process to be done. The process can be done at home or in a hospital. Those who do it for religious purposes often perform the process at home. When done in a hospital or at home, circumcision is done by a family doctor, pediatrician, obstetrician, or other formal or informal medical practitioners.

Before circumcising a child, parents are educated on the process and the risks it may present to the child. Anesthesia is not administered if the process is done only a few days after birth, and the complications involved are also minimal. On the other hand, adults need an anesthesia and certain complications may be involved in the process.

There are some medical or general conditions that may make the doctor to make the decision of not circumcising the newborn or forgoing the process until a later time. Babies who are born prematurely are also not circumcised until when they are old enough to undergo the process. If the baby is born with physical abnormalities of the penis, circumcision may never be done at all.

During the process, the foreskin gets freed from the glans before it is clipped off using a pair of scissors. When performed on a newborn baby, the process lasts about ten minutes. In adults, the process is more complicated and should take longer. Newborns also heal faster than adults. On average, newborns should heal after 5 to 7 days.

Several health benefits have been determined to be associated with this process. Those that stand out the most include reduced risk of urinary tract infections and STIs, prevention of phimosis, balanitis, balanoposthitis, and penile cancer. Also, there is reduction in the probability of cervical cancer in women one engages in sexual intercourse with.

There are also several risks associated with being circumcised. Some of them include pain, risk of injury, meatitis, irritation, bleeding, and infection. Although these are possible risks, they are unlikely to happen. In fact, the rate of occurrence is very low and they can often be corrected easily.
